Medical Assistant & Care Coordinator - Qualcomm Employee Health Center

This is a benefited, fulltime position generally working 8am-5pm Monday-Friday (no weekends). Located in Sorrento Valley at the Qualcomm Employee Health Centers. You will be expected to float between both clinics as needed.

What you'll do:

Performs patient care responsibilities during patient appointments to include proper patient identification, vital signs, medication reconciliation, POC testing, and appropriate documentation of patient care activities/issues/concerns in chart/EMR.Completes phlebotomy through venipuncture or capillary punctures, ensures sample integrity and executes the crucial pre-analytic and analytic steps of the procedure.Assists providers with procedures in an organized, efficient manner while consistently adhering to infection control principles by use of standard precautions, PPE equipment, hand hygiene, waste disposal/reporting and cleaning of equipment.Adheres to prescribed workflows.Properly prepares, documents and administers medication in accordance with provider orders and ensures accuracy through verification of a licensed staff member.Ensures supplies are available for providers, stocks rooms, and ensures all supplies and medications are appropriate for use and not expired.Responds to patient requests accurately and timely to include follow-up calls, patient portal messages, prescription refill requests, lab/imaging results notification, and appointment scheduling within their scope of practice.Coordinates and maintains customer satisfaction/service and communication among patients, physicians and other internal customers.Exhibits excellent communication skills with patients/family members when scheduling patient appointments, taking messages, explaining processes/procedures etc. as directed by the provider and within the scope of practice.Adheres to Scripps’ guidelines when promptly answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, entering authorizations, checking in/out patients and other duties as requested for patient care and within their scope of practice.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or Medical Assistance Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman.10 hours of venipuncture training within 2 months of hire.

Required Certification/Registration:

BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

One year of experience as a MA in an outpatient setting preferred.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
