JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam room aseptic, neat and supplied.
2. Obtains and documents complete patient data in a timely and accurate manner.
3. Prepares patients for exams and assists provider with exams/tests/procedures as needed.
4. Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate.
5. Performs basic procedures as ordered by provider and within scope of practice.
6. Processes provider’s orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Arranges for hospital admission when indicated.
7. Insures that charges are submitted in a timely manner.
8. Assists the provider with obtaining test results.
9. Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care.
10. Processes prescriptions as directed.
11. Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider.
12. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
13. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Other duties as assigned.
2. Trains and mentors new employees and students.
3. Acts as a resource for problem solving and leads change initiatives within the department
4. Assists in policy and procedure development and review
5. May participate in interviews
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: One of the following:
Graduate of a Medical Assistant programDocumented successful completion of the following courses or (their recognized course equivalent):Medical Terminology from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class.Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class.Pharmacology from an accredited institution.Two years of Medical Assistant-related work experience and completion of the required educational courses listed above within the first 12 months from hire.Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare experience.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: None Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
-Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
-Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or equivalent
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
