Medical Assistant (Consultant)

 

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Medical Assistant (Consultant) to work part time for its Child Advocacy Center program.

The Medical Assistant (Consultant) position is a non-exempt position paying $20-25 per hour. The hours are flexible up to 10 hours for the week (Monday-Friday). Consulting Medical Assistant will be working in the Child Advocacy Center in the Riverhead location. The role reports to the Division Director.

 

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Medical Assistant will assist the medical providers at the Child Advocacy Centers with various aspects of patient care. Using a multidisciplinary team approach, the Child Advocacy Centers, located in Central Islip and Riverhead, NY, provide services to child victims of sexual abuse.  

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Escort patients to exam rooms, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s chart Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations. Assist medical providers in exam rooms Disinfect, clean treatment rooms following patient examinations; maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations. Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required; properly disposes of contaminated supplies Assist in the collection of specimens Perform a routine venipuncture Prepare specimens for delivery to laboratory Attend relevant trainings and monthly case review meetings to be kept informed of current research and best practices in the field. 

 

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program or at least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with pediatric patients and must have experience drawing blood from pediatric patients. Must have good communication skills, both oral and written; must have ability to work cooperatively with other agencies and professionals interfacing with program clients. Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
