Summary
A Medical Assistant Extern will act as an apprentice, while completing their formal training as a Certified Medical Assistant. Decisions are limited to defined parameters around work expectations, quality standards, priorities, and timing, and works under close supervision of a season Medical Assistant and/or within established policies/practices and guidelines with minimal opportunity for deviation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis by Medical Assistance. Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of the organization.
• Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
• Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
• Demonstrate Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrate the ability Room patients and prepare them for examination
• Demonstrate the ability to take vitals including blood pressure, height, weight and documentation in EMR
• Demonstrate the ability to update EMR medical record including medications, allergies, past medical & past surgical history
• Demonstrate how to prep for a trays minor procedure and assist with those procedures as needed.
• Demonstrate how to prep exam rooms appropriate to patient appointment type.
• Demonstrate the ability to Clean exam room/bed after each appointment and restock when needed
• Demonstrate the ability to Assist physician and/or PA with patient examinations.
• Demonstrate the ability to draw blood, perform EKG, SWAB test and any additional clinical test within clinic.
• Demonstrate the ability to Manage Physician orders by submitting to appropriate departments such as imagining, labs, scheduling surgeries, of referral to specialist. Confirm all orders are completed and that results have been completed.
• Demonstrate the ability to obtain Prior Authorizations
• Demonstrate the ability to complete additional task as assigned by Medical Assistant Trainer.
• Demonstrate and train as a PSR by checking in patients, registering patients, verifying insurance, scan documents in patient charts, answer phones, schedule appointments.

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Education: Actively Enrolled in a Certified Medical Assistant Program
Experience: One year of Medical Training Preferred but not required
