MEDICAL ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE    

Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.  

Documented successful completion of the following courses (or their recognized course equivalent): (1) Medical Terminology from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class, (2) Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class, and (3) Pharmacology from an accredited institution.  

Two years of Medical Assistant-related work experience and completion of the required educational courses listed above within the first 12 months from hire.  

Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare. 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare teams by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The individual performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System’s (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS  

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.  

Minimum Required: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma OR applicable coursework to obtain license below.

Preferred/Optional: None  

EXPERIENCE  

Minimum Required: None  

Preferred/Optional: Experience in healthcare.  

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES  

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following:

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA)

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Wisconsin or equivalent  

Preferred/Optional:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
