Medical Assistant III
Description Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, or designee, you will perform a variety of duties related to the care and clerical duties of the Clinical and Translational Research Center. You will participate in total patient care in the ambulatory setting, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms and life-threatening emergencies. You will act as a staff person in the office, assisting in patient care and maintaining a high standard of care in the clinic office. The Medical Assistant III also provides support for research activities including helping study coordinators to operationalize their trials in the CTRC. You will support front office activities such as scheduling, checking in patients, checking for prior authorizations, and answering phones. You will assist in maintaining a high standard of care in the CTRC. The Medical Assistant III must have a valid phlebotomy certification. Salary Range: $28.06 - $37.02/Hourly Qualifications Required: + Medical Assistant Certification/Diploma as follows: + Documentation of completion from a medical assistant program from a medical assistant school that is accredited by ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP or ABHES OR + Documentation of completion from a medical assistant program AND documentation of national certification for medical assistant issued by CMA, NCCT or AMT OR + Documentation of completing a medical assistant program AND demonstrated completion of no less than 10 clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests; 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood; at least 10 of each intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and 10 skin tests, and/or at least 10 venipuncture and 10 skin punctures; 10 hours of training in administering medical by inhalation + CPR/BLS Certification. + 2 years of outpatient Family Medicine, multi-specialty group, or in a research setting. + Ability to accurately perform and document vital signs and anthropometric measures. + Competency in administering medications, as permitted by licensure. + Ability to recognize abnormal vital signs. Ability to recognize abnormal laboratory values and immediately report to RN on the study. + Knowledge of symptomatology of common and/or life-threatening medical problems. + Skills in performing phlebotomy, CPR, injections and other skills within the scope of practice. + Strong working knowledge of MS Office, word, excel, access, PowerPoint, outlook and internet explorer. + Skill to accurately perform a 12 Lead EKG. + Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling Bio hazardous specimens or contaminated instruments. + Ability to push, pull or carry 30lbs or more. + Ability to go to area's that are outside of the UCLA Westwood area to see research subjects. Preferred: + Current, valid CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification. + Knowledge of the online University systems, such as Express and Bruin Buy.
