Job Summary: The Medical Assistant, Residency Clinics works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician in the clinic environment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific (neonatal, infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult, middle adult, later adult) direct and indirect patient care within designated scope of practice; assists with ensuring efficient clinic operation; floats among clinics as requested; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports the I CARE initiative, excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED and successful completion of an approved Certified Medical Assistant program or other health care training certificate. Minimum one year of previous clinical experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; operate patient care equipment necessary to the position; perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate with healthcare team; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; perform basic patient care duties with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Medical Assistant certification or Medical Assistant diploma or other health care training certificate required; Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
