SUMMARY:
Perform selected clinical duties that assist in the delivery of patient care management to the degree of training and as delegated by Office Manager,
practice physician(s), nurse practitioner(s), physician assistant(s) or nurse(s). Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care by controlling patient flow, obtaining and documenting necessary history and vital signs, performing assigned procedures, and providing patient education.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently applies the Brown Medicine values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality in support of the Brown Medicine mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education.
Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Medicine Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
Consistently practices the Brown Medicine Customer Service Standards.
+ Rooms patients (Vitals, weight, medications, PMH, Surgical History, Family History, Drug allergy, social history (smoking history and alcohol use etc.), .
+ Maintains a smooth patient flow.
+ Manages patient’s call for non-urgent issues (e.g., reminder of appointment date, scheduling/ rescheduling issues etc.)
+ Administers prescribed medications and treatments
+ Observes, records and reports patients’ vitals and reactions to treatments.
+ Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems.
+ Maintains accurate patient records.
+ Assures patient stays for required observation time after injection(s).
+ Reacts appropriately in patient reaction situations; informs physician and/or other clinical staff as necessary to mitigate adverse reactions.
+ Responsible for following OSHA regulations.
+ Maintains patient, employee and clinic confidentiality.
+ Obtains medical records, procedure/lab test result
+ Ensures cleanliness of room
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or demonstrated experience of a minimum of one-year experience gained through prior employment.
+ National certification preferred.
+ Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures as dictated by specialty area.
+ Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
+ Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
+ Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
+ Ability to communicate appropriately.
+ Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisor and peers.
EXPERIENCE:
Prefer a minimum of one-year experience working in a medical setting.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Conditions common to a clinical practice environment including potential exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations and hazardous materials. Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Work is performed under general supervision, with some independent judgment exercised in determining priorities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None.
ADDENDUM BCBSRI SPECIAL PROJECT WORK:
+ Participate as an active member of the care team and assume duties/responsibilities to facilitate ongoing care coordination, follow-up and reporting/documentation to improve clinical outcomes related to outpatient dialysis initiation and avoidance of ED/Hospital use when appropriate.
+ Facilitate patient activation and encourage patient to be an active, informed member of the care team and provide tools necessary to assist patients in meeting their healthcare goals including coordination of dialysis initiation.
+ Actively supports the goals and concepts of practice transformation by demonstrating flexibility and willingness to change and participates in ongoing, clinical quality improvement.
+ Assess workflows using principles of continuous quality improvement and makes recommendations to Division Director, Director of Quality Programs and Practice Manager based on data collected.
+ Supports Nurse Care Manager and Clinical Pharmacist with patient outreach and follow up as assigned.
+ Monitors alerts and triages patients enrolled in Remote Patient Monitoring program(s)
+ Demonstrates knowledge and competence in Evidence Based guidelines (EBG) and population management and proficiency preparing and reviewing clinical quality reports and performing follow-up with patients, providers, specialists, outside facilities and community organizations to best meet the care team's goals and objectives
+ Display strong sense of teamwork in daily interactions with all internal and external members of the care team to provide ongoing support for all aspects of the patient's care.
+ Mentors and trains new hires.
+ Follow established Brown Medicine EMR workflow protocols to maximize site’s productivity and office flow efficiency.
