This position is time-limited to four (4) months. provides or assists the providers in front and back office tasks and procedures in a Medical Home medical practice. Supervision means direction by a qualified medical assistant, registered nurse or provider for the accomplishment of a task or activity, including initial direction and periodic inspection of the actual accomplishment of the task or activity.

The incumbent must be knowledgeable of the uses of equipment specific to the area of employment. This position is responsible to annually demonstrate proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, BLS, and hazardous materials. The trainee must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the clinic, unit/department age specific competency standard. Under the supervision of the medical assistant, registered nurse, or provider the trainee assists the provider in back office duties, including but not limited to: escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly, taking vital signs as per guidelines, stocking supplies, placing and receiving phone calls including appropriate documentation in EMR, preparing lab specimens for processing, completing the necessary referral forms, obtaining authorizations and keeping of records for referrals, scheduling patients for tests and administration of treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies. The trainee will assist with patient check in and checkout procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the patients questions and concerns have been addressed. The trainee uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other healthcare providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews.
The trainee will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements. This position does provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Name Description Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Experience: Enrolled in a training program required for certification as a medical assistant through the National Healthcareer Associations Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Examination. This is through TMCC and part of their MA certification. License(s): None Certification(s): Required to have passed the final exam to be a National Certified Medical Assistant. Current BLS certification by American Heart Association standards required within trainee program duration. Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
