Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Laurel Springs

Position Description

Provides clinical and support services to patients, providers, and staff in the Urgent Care Clinic to improve turnaround time and facilitate maximum efficiency in the department. Schedules patients for follow-up services. Responsible for greeting patients, creating or verifying, analyzing, and updating patient and insurance information. In addition, the Technician will explain payment policies and the billing collection process. Generate charge ticket information, accepting payment, posting entry, and balancing payments.  

 

Position Responsibilities

Patient Service:

•Greet, register, instruct, discharge, and provide general assistance to patients.

•Confirm medical chart is completed.

•Confirm that patient understands physician instructions.

•Obtains relevant lab, x-ray, and other diagnostic test results.

•Transport patients to other departments via wheelchair or stretcher if necessary.

•Provides instructions to patients as appropriate, including but not limited to lab or other procedures information, crutch walking, etc.

•Prepares patient to see provider.

•Assists provider prior to, during, and following examination, including but not limited to: Taking vital signs, collecting specimens.

•Carries out procedures, using aseptic techniques as needed, including but not limited to: Inserting foley catheters, drawing blood for delivery to the lab, performing EKG's, splinting non-displaced fractures, and suture removal.

Register Patients:

•Obtain demographic and financial information and enter into computer system.

•Verify insurance eligibility.

•Relay relevant information on payment policies and billing/collecting processes.

•Confirm that patient financial responsibilities are settled before patient leaves office.

Clerical Tasks:

•Perform clerical tasks are required.

•Answer telephone, take messages, and return voicemail messages.

•Retrieve and fax/mail medical records to primary care providers and insurance carriers per patient authorization.

•Makes, cancels, and verifies appointments as necessary.
