Medical Assisting Program Director

 

The Medical Assistant Program Director is responsible for the administration of the Medical Assistant program. The Program Director is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning and development. The position is a full-time position.

 

· Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of the Medical Assistant program curriculum and course content in accordance with program standards and student and institutional needs.

· Curriculum development and periodic revision based on learning science and current professional practices in the field of study.

· Responsible for the selection, supervision, assignment and evaluation of program faculty.

· Supervise and assist faculty by providing evaluation devices for student learning and clinical experience to measure progress and competency.

· Orient new faculty to policies and procedures of ECPI and the Medical Assistant Department.

· Participate in guidance and advising for students.

· Evaluate student progress and competency based on program philosophy and objectives.

· Provide classroom and clinical instruction including lectures, testing, classroom and clinical site discipline, safety and security.

· Approve faculty lesson plans.

· Maintain appropriate records for current and former students.

· Provide information to appropriate agencies for educational, employment, and/or statistical purposes within the scope of federal and state freedom of information and privacy laws.

· Prepare reports necessary for continued approval or accreditation of the program.

· Evaluate textbooks, references, and other teaching materials.

· Make recommendations for textbooks, materials, and equipment (program resources).

· Maintain an inventory of equipment & provide for the care of ECPI supplies and equipment.

· Periodic assessment and recommendation for modification of facilities and equipment in relation to current professional practices in the field of study.

· Make recommendations to the Director of Academic Affairs for items to be included in the budget.

· Work with the Career Advisor to coordinate visitations to externship sites.

· Select and approve appropriate Externship sites, provide orientation for the on-site supervisors, and provide oversight of the Externship experience, including on-site assessment of student experiences and the quality of learning opportunities at least once during each term students are assigned to the Externship site.

· Maintain professional qualifications through participation in continuing education programs and academic courses.

· Participate in Advisory Board meetings.

· Provide administrative support as required & coordinate and/or participate in special projects as required.

· Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned.

 

Administrative and teaching experience must enable the individual to provide leadership and assume other responsibilities of the position.

The program director must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The program director is a graduate from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach.

The program director must be credentialed in medical assisting through a nationally recognized and accredited certifying agency.

The program director must have a minimum of three (3) years full time experience in a healthcare facility with a minimum of one year direct patient care in an ambulatory healthcare setting. The program director must have teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education.

The Program Director must be knowledgeable in program curriculum, as evidenced by education and/or experience, and effective in evaluating student learning and performance.

A minimum of three years of full-time experience in a healthcare facility with a minimum of one year of direct patient care in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
