In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring proper coding of procedures, diagnoses, and treatments to support medical billing and compliance initiatives. Key Responsibilities: + Assign accurate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. + Review and analyze patient medical records to identify proper coding opportunities in compliance with standard coding guidelines. + Ensure coding accuracy to optimize reimbursement and reduce claim denials while adhering to regulations set by CMS and other entities. + Collaborate with medical providers and billing staff to clarify medical documentation and ensure proper code assignment. + Stay up to date with changes in medical coding protocols, insurance industry policies, and federal compliance guidelines. + Perform audits on coded data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and completeness. + Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and maintain data integrity in patient billing systems. + Contribute to training and development for practice managers and healthcare staff on coding best practices. Requirements + 3+ years of prior medical coding experience preferred + Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification highly desired. + Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding. + Strong knowledge of medical billing processes, compliance guidelines, and insurance reimbursement policies. + Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and billing systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) preferred. + Outstanding attention to detail with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. + Strong organizational and communication skills to collaborate with healthcare teams. + Familiarity with HIPAA and related healthcare regulatory requirements.
