Responsibilities: + Accurately assign and sequence medical codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS) to diagnoses, procedures, and services documented in patient records. + Review medical documentation to ensure proper coding in compliance with official guidelines, payer rules, and regulatory requirements. + Collaborate with healthcare providers and billing teams to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding practices. + Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations to protect patient information. + Utilize and navigate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic) to retrieve medical information for coding. + Assist with audits, identifying coding errors, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented. + Stay updated with industry trends, evolving coding regulations, and changes in healthcare compliance standards. Requirements Qualifications: + High school diploma or equivalent required. + Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is a requirement. + Certifications such as Certified Professional Biller (CPB), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) are highly desirable. + Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. + Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records systems like Cerner and Epic is a plus. + Strong analytical skills with impeccable attention to detail. + Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines. + Clear understanding of HIPAA standards and confidentiality obligations.
