Medical Coding Specialist - Pocatello ENT-FullTime

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Medical Coding Specialist to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Accountable for conversion of diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases. The coder assigns ICD-10 CM and/or HCPCS codes, creating APC or DRG group assignment for reimbursement purposes. Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnosis/ procedures to optimize reimbursement. Must be able to read and interpret operative reports, history and physicals, physician orders, and pathology reports to determine the correct CPT and diagnosis coding. Ensures that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner. Abstracting worksheets to put codes in the computer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure that records are coded.

2. Reviews charts thoroughly to ascertain all diagnoses/procedures.

3. Contacts responsible physician in professional manner if diagnosis is not available on chart.

4. Coder’s diagnoses and procedure on clinical summary agree with physician’s preference 100% of the time.

5. Assists with coding and error resolution.

6. Refers chart to director, if there is a question regarding the diagnosis code.

7. Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.

8. Codes all diagnoses/procedures in accordance to ICD-10-CM coding principles and the Coding Manual.

9. Logs diagnoses, procedures and other abstracting data on worksheet to input in the computer.

10. Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment system.

11. Acts as a resource person to hospital staff for coding and may provide education regarding coding changes/issues.

12. Must be familiar with all charting and coding requirements.

13. Responsible to assist the receptionists, prior authorizations, and CMA’s when needed.

14. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.

15. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients’ records.

16. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

17. Participates in educational program and in-service meetings. Completes annual education requirements.

18. Attends meetings as required.

19. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.

20. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

21. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

22. Maintains 99% rate of information correctly abstracted

23. Completes annual education requirements

24. Maintains regulatory requirements.

25. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.

26. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.

27. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

28. Performs other job related duties as assigned by management.

29. The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.
