Job Description:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida seeks a Medical Director for the UF Health Eye Center to build, advance, and elevate the strategic vision of the department. This position combines direct patient care service with leadership responsibilities in support of ophthalmology clinical programs. Candidates should be eligible for the clinical faculty rank of Assistant Professor or above and demonstrate experience with and commitment to advancing clinical, surgical and educational excellence within an academic medical center. The Medical Director will be a member of the ophthalmology faculty and work closely with the department chair, executive management team, and institutional leadership to implement strategies that enhance patient care and improve the medical practice. Responsibilities include the provision of healthcare services and teaching during clinical encounters and surgical intervention for ophthalmologic patients as well as administrative duties to steer operations and support the organizational functions of the eye center. Applicants will engage in a busy tertiary clinical practice in an established longstanding department with a new, state of the art clinic and surgery center. In addition to providing excellence in patient care, ample opportunities exist to develop independent and collaborative research and innovative education models in a diverse academic clinical department.

Salary, rank and tenure status will be commensurate with credentials and experience. The College of Medicine has a competitive faculty compensation plan, which includes incentives. Employer may assist with relocation costs.

Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:

Clinical requirements include a medical degree (M.D.). Completion of an ACGME approved ophthalmology residency program as well as applicable postgraduate fellowship training if practicing a relevant subspecialty. Board certification or eligibility and the ability to obtain licensure to practice medicine in Florida are prerequisites. Incumbent will be credentialed as medical staff to provide patient care services within UF Health facilities and affiliated locations. Must be eligible for the rank of Assistant Professor or above and demonstrate experience with and commitment to advancing clinical, surgical and educational excellence within an academic medical center.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualifications, in addition to clinical expertise, include a strong commitment to teaching, resident training, and research as well as participation in academic activities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills are important. Superior leadership qualities enhanced by superb judgment, problem-solving and cognitive skills are desired.
