Medical Director - Health & Social Care - Mental Health (Child & Adolescent)

Key duties:                                                                                                                               

Chair Medical Advisory Committee meetings Attend hospital board meetings and report on appraisals, clinical performance, medical staffing issues (consultants, juniors and out of hours), pharmacy reports, MHA issues, SUI. Liaise between medical staff and hospital board in respect of practicing privileges/consultant appointments Involve him/herself in preparation for CQC visits Take local lead for recruitment and retention of staff Support education and training of juniors in line with their CPD needs Ensure each doctor has an annual appraisal as appropriate and allocate appraisers as necessary Ensure adequate number of appraisers are trained locally to provide the number of appraisals at the Hospital Liaise with Responsible Officer and Group Medical Director in respect of concerns about fitness to practice issues for medical staff Brief Group Medical Director about any issues arising on a 4-weekly basis Attend the bi-annual Medical Directors meeting Ensure medical audit is taking place in clinically relevant areas, especially outcome measures Assist in the management of out of hours on-call services to ensure well organized reliable and high quality services. Monitor and ensure induction training for out of hours doctors Support the unit management and be actively involved when necessary in performance management and disciplinary matters involving medical staff Assist unit management in matters relating to inspections by statutory agencies Work closely with local safeguarding leads Attendance at integrated clinical governance meetings Establish protocol for reviewing national guidance such as NICE/Royal College of Psychiatrists guidance Ensure there is a process in place for cross cover arrangements (for sickness and holidays and such like) between consultants and/or provision for continuous medical cover for the hospital Provide or delegate responsibility for clinical and educational supervision of medical staff Development of medical services supporting the needs of local commissioners Encourage and support Reducing Restrictive Practice (RRP) initiatives
