Medical Director of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine - Physician - Valley Health, NJ
**Valley Health System, in affiliation with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is actively recruiting a Pediatric Pulmonologist to join the team as Medical Director of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine.** The candidate selected for this position will work in conjunction with the Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital to develop a comprehensive pediatric pulmonary medicine program in northern New Jersey. This provider will also oversee the Valley Hospital pediatric PFT laboratory and work in conjunction with the Pediatric Sleep Medicine at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital to develop a comprehensive pediatric sleep medicine program in northern New Jersey. **The clinical duties required will include:** + Provides care for children with acute and chronic pulmonary disorders (i.e.: asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), management of ventilator/CPAP devices) in both inpatient and outpatient settings through Valley Hospital and VHS outlets. + Helps support an ambulatory practice in pediatric sleep medicine practice in NJ, seeing patients with a broad spectrum of sleep disorders and including children with developmental issues in coordination with the pediatric Sleep Medicine program at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. These functions include sleep study ordering, study results review and coordination of care with the Mount Sinai Pediatric Sleep Medicine program. + Provides up to date recommendations for treatment of pediatric sleep disorders for patients. + Supports outpatient pediatric pulmonology operations with other community partners offering bronchoscopy services and access to interventional bronchoscopy as needed. In this position you will be part of a larger multi-specialty group including experienced providers in Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Pediatrics and Sleep Medicine, Food Allergy Cardiology and PM&R, all in collaboration with Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital and the Mount Sinai Health System. Academic appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital are possible based on previous academic ranking and productivity. The Medical Director of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine will be charged with development and growth of our services and development a robust collaboration with the Mount Sinai Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. This includes but is not limited to participation in education activities, support of house staff and medical student education and research collaboration with MS faculty. Academic appointments with Icahn School of Medicine are possible in the Clinical Educator track. This position reports directly to the Chair of Children’s Service line at the Valley Medical Group. **Reports to** : Chair Children’s Services **Time Commitment:** Clinical 80%, Administrative 20% **Position Summary** : The Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Pediatrician provides care for children with acute and chronic pulmonary disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings through Valley Hospital and VHS outlets. In addition, this clinician will work with Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital to develop a comprehensive pediatric pulmonary medicine program in Northern New Jersey. **Primary Administrative Duties and Responsibilities 20%:** + Works in conjunction with the Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital to develop a comprehensive pediatric pulmonary medicine program in northern New Jersey. + Oversees the Valley Hospital pediatric PFT laboratory. + Works in conjunction with the Pediatric Sleep Medicine at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital to develop a comprehensive pediatric sleep medicine program in northern New Jersey. + Participates in marketing endeavors to inform the community about the availability of pediatric pulmonary and sleep medical services. + Identifies opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage of cost savings, employee satisfaction, and/or customer satisfaction. Completes documentation concurrently as patients are seen. + Assures continuity of care through adequate scheduling and tracking of return visits, completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests, and “no-shows”. + Provides appropriate patient education including clear explanation of treatment; the use and side effects of prescribed medications; health maintenance; and the use of appropriate educational “handouts” or other written instructions. + Delegates clinical tasks appropriate to the level of training of each staff member. + Provides an accounting of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation. + Utilizes infection control and safety protocols appropriately. + Maintains familiarity with practice’s on-site diagnostic procedures and equipment. + Ensures the professional development of self and team, i.e. pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc. + Participates in the practice’s “on-call” schedules as needed. Is available for emergency calls from VMG staff or physicians. + Completes in a timely manner all managed care applications, credentialing and re-credentialing requests from the corporate office. + Abides by guidelines established by all managed care and insurance payors. **Qualifications** : + MD or DO + Board certified in Pediatrics & Pediatric Pulmonology + Ample experience in managing pediatric sleep disorders, ambulatory ventilation. Board certification or eligibility for Pediatric Sleep Medicine not required but preferred.
