Medical Group Manager Quality and Safety

Description:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the MercyOne (Trinity Health) Mission, Vision, Core Values, Actions and Promise in behaviors, practices, and decisions.Leads, manages, and oversees the respective areas of quality and patient safety (inclusive of the culture of safety (TogetherSafe) work) across the regional medical groups.Fosters and cultivates a high reliability mindfulness focused on creating exceptionally safe and consistently high-quality care, demonstrating a relentless pursuit of a culture of safety where zero harm is the highest priority.Implements an overall performance improvement plan that is consistent with MercyOne and local medical group strategies, and in conjunction with the local medical group leadership, Medical Practice Committees, executive committee, and the board of trustees/directors.Works strategically with the local medical directors, providers, managers, colleagues, and system leaders to develop quality and safety strategic plans.  Provides direct supervision of the colleagues assigned and assists in their development and competency.Provides leadership and direction for assigned committees.On an on-going basis, identifies problem areas in need of focused attention - plans and oversees implementation of actions to drive improved outcomes.Achieves the best outcomes aligned to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other pay for performance programs, including those aligned to commercial carriers.Leads and manages continuous improvement toward achieving excellent outcomes and recognition with regards to outside “rating” organizations, includingNational Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA).Collaborates with the local executive leadership, providers, and directors in meeting/exceeding standards of excellence and achieving national designations, certifications, and awards.Actively collaborates with leaders of risk management, accreditation, patient experience, performance excellence, and infection prevention to provide identified and needed support for improvement.Manages coordinating with the population health team to align resources and workflow with specific strategies that promote care across the continuum.Implements on-going education and training programs focused on effective population health care/chronic disease management.Develops quality excellence systems that integrate LEAN and other methodologies as appropriate to create a premier data-driven quality improvement programming across local medical groups.In collaboration with local leadership, participates as appropriate in the development, monitoring, reporting, and improvement of quality and safety activities related to respective service lines/departments.Provides appropriate oversight, support, and/or consultative services (project design, selection of data required, development of documentation tools, etc.) to improvement teams.Works closely with local medical group leadership to improve culture of safety - including the concept of a “Just Culture” and “TogetherSafe.”In collaboration with Risk Management, recommends and supports opportunities for improvement on Cause Analyses (root cause, apparent cause, and common cause).Manages clinical data gathering/analytics ensuring accuracy of scorecards/ dashboards for internal and external customers.Promotes an environment of shared leadership and decision-making.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.Supports organizational evidence-based practice, innovation, and research.Maintain awareness of and respond to issues in areas including the following: ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population, political and social influences, financial and economic issues, the aging of society, and ethical issues related to healthcare

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

A thorough understanding of the health care/medical group environment and all applicable laws and regulations.In depth knowledge of high reliability organizations, quality excellence, change leadership, shared governance, matrix reporting, continuous improvement, operational, financial and productivity management.The ability to synthesize and interpret large amounts of clinical, quality, and financial data.Proven time management skills with the ability to prioritize and organize work/projects in a fast-paced working environment so that all tasks are completed on time and accurately.Keeps current in area of expertise and assure that standards and practices reflect best practice within area of expertise.Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for MercyOne.  Possesses a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of MercyOne and Trinity Health.Provides a high level of customer responsiveness and serves as a role model to encourage a commitment to customer service. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, nursing, health administration or related field required (Master’s degree preferred).Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience working with clinic leadership and/or within a clinic setting. Progressive leadership experience, preferably at a manager or coordinator level, working with physicians and advanced practice providers. National certification in quality/safety required or must acquire within 2 years of hire. LEAN Six Sigma certification preferred.

Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:

Member of a professional healthcare or nursing organization.

Demonstrated expertise in the use of performance improvement methodology/tools.

Must be able to use computers for documentation and other relevant activities. Demonstrates specific knowledge related to software programs such as event reporting systems, government reporting systems, and other appropriate software programs. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), HealthStream, Intranet, and use of reporting tools. Helpful to have experience with PowerChart/EPIC or similar tool.
