A Medical Health Physicist administers the health physics activities of Radiation Safety and supports the safe medical and research use of radioactive material and ionizing radiation at Cleveland Clinic Health System facilities. Provides health physics support to the Radiation Safety Officer and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.

 

A caregiver in this position works 7:00am—4:00pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Supervises Medical Health Physicists and technical staff. 

Assigns, reviews, and approves work. 

Assists with recruiting, promotions, discipline, and annual performance reviews. 

Establishes performance expectations and goals for staff. 

Prepares and implements written procedures for the various radiation safety field activities. 

Responds to and investigates over-exposures, accidents, spills, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, uses, transfers, disposals, misadministration, and other deviations from approved radiation safety practices. 

Implements corrective actions, as necessary. 

Works with authorized users and department administrators to ensure compliance with the various requirements, ensure radiation exposures are as low as achievable, and resolve any issues related to radiation safety field operations. 

Performs as a Medical Health Physicist as necessary to achieve department goals and satisfy management expectations. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Master's degree (MS) in health physics, medical health physics or a closely related area of study. 

Other degrees and specialties may be considered based upon the applicant's experience. 

Valid State driver's license (VDL). 

Five years of responsible professional experience in health physics, including at least three years in applied health physics and at least one year at a large academic-medical center. 

OR doctoral degree may be substituted for two years of required experience. 

Technician-level experience will not be acceptable as meeting the experience requirements. 

Eligible to take the ABHP or ABMP-MHP certification exams at the time of hire. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Certified Health Physicist (CHP) by American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or Certified Medical Health Physics (MHP) by American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).

Physical Requirements:

Requires extensive standing, walking, and driving to various locations on and off campus.Requires physical senses, mobility and strength sufficient to operate PC computer and assorted field equipment, and handle items up to 50 pounds.
