Get to Know Your Team: Portneuf Medical Center is a nationally recognized healthcare leader with 205 beds, serving as the region’s Level II Trauma and tertiary care center and home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group, and Portneuf Air Rescue. Responsibilities The Medical Laboratory Assistant functions as a laboratory professional who assists other laboratory personnel in specimen collection, specimen receiving, specimen processing, laboratory testing, process improvement and quality initiatives. Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines. Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider. Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport. Responsible for patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen receipt, accessioning, processing and specimen distribution according to protocol. Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport. Performs proper drug screen collection and processing, as assigned Monitors phlebotomy draw list and assigns/dispatches phlebotomists to draw specimens as assigned. Courier duties as assigned. Performs laboratory tests in compliance with policies and procedures as assigned. Assists in preparing laboratory equipment for testing. Qualifications Job Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent Basic Life Support certification through either American Heart Association or American Red Cross Preferred Job Requirements: Certification from nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date Experience working in the clinical setting
