The Unregistered Medical Technologist/MLS performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

The Unregistered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab, such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion, and more. These scientists act as a technical expert to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting.

Intermountain caregivers in this role will have opportunities for growth, taking on additional responsibilities such as:

Key operatorQC reviewTraining and mentoring new staffAssisting with evaluation and validation of new equipmentTechnical writingCompliance readiness (CAP, CLIA, etc.)Acting as interim Team Lead

This position requires organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail. These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment. After gaining experience in a designated field, the Unregistered MLS may qualify to take a certification exam (i.e. ASCP, AAB, AMT) to become a Categorical Registered Med Tech/MLS.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR- official transcripts demonstrating completion of a recognized and accredited program.Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with laboratory information systems.Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory.Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person.Demonstrated basic computer skills.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
