Medical Laboratory Scientist, Per Diem Point of Care, MMC

Under the direction of the Lab Operations Manager, POC and Point of Care Supervisor, the Medical Lab Scientist will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of patient testing conducted outside the traditional laboratory setting. They will assist with the oversight of the daily operation of the Point of Care Testing program across various clinical departments and offsite practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting patient safety and efficient workflow. 

Responsibilities

Maintain Point of Care Testing (POCT) Program: Follow POCT policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with regulatory requirements. Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, COLA, TJC) and ensure adherence to guidelines within the POCT program. Assist on maintaining adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory. Assist with regular audits, proficiency testing, and quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of POCT results. Assist with preparation and maintain documentation for inspections, certifications, and accreditations related to POCT. Train and Educate Staff: Assist with conducting training programs for clinical staff involved in POCT, including operators and supervisors. Provide ongoing education to staff regarding new testing procedures, protocols, and safety guidelines. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and quality by promoting best practices and standardization in POCT. Monitor and Troubleshoot POCT: Monitor and analyze POCT results to identify any issues or discrepancies. Investigate and resolve technical problems or equipment malfunctions related to POCT devices. Collaborate and Communicate: Foster effective communication and collaboration with laboratory personnel, clinical departments, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of POCT into patient care. Serve as a resource for staff regarding POCT-related questions, troubleshooting, and best practices. Participates in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.  Other relevant duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or in a physical, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution. Copy of diploma must be provided. If MT or MLS not specified, must provide transcript. Foreign graduates require equivalency documentation. ASCP eligible

Experience/Skills Requirement

Proven experience working in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting, with a solid understanding of laboratory operations and regulatory compliance. Familiarity with relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g. CLIA, CAP) and accreditation processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and deliver training programs. Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and quality in laboratory practices. Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Travel between different sites is required.
