As a generalist with our first shift medical laboratory team, you’ll find a balance between automation and manual testing. You’ll work in multiple areas and refine your skills through time spent in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis! As a member of the laboratory team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), you’ll support a 600+ bed Level I trauma and comprehensive stroke center AND perform testing for the entire eight-hospital system.
GMC boasts state-of-the-art automated testing equipment, with the volume of specimens processed at GMC, you’ll test abnormal specimens daily in addition to completing life-saving routine testing like hemoglobin A1C, lipids, kidney function, drug screens, and volatiles. This role will perform testing, support quality control measures, and troubleshoot instrumentation.
GMC also offers opportunities for specialized testing generally performed in a reference laboratory; Flow Cytometry to aid in the diagnosis of Lymphoma and Leukemias; Toxicology to aid in identifying drugs of abuse and management of compliance of other drugs. GMC medical technologists are also responsible for testing for serum and urine protein electrophoresis, allergens, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, specialty coagulation, etc.
Our day shift medical technologists can also work in a satellite laboratory within our cancer center that promotes close interactions with nursing, physicians, and phlebotomists providing real-time testing for our patients.
Education Qualification and Details
Medical Laboratory Scientist:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR; Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR; Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory HEWMedical Laboratory Technician:
Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)Military experience will be considered and is welcomed. US Army 68K Medical Laboratory Specialist, 71E Clinical Laboratory Scientist, US Navy Medical Laboratory Technician, US Air Force Medical Laboratory Technician 4T0X1 and Biomedical Laboratory Officer (43TX) and related medical specialties.
