UPMC Shadyside is currently looking for a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist or Expert Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in the Special Stem Cell Laboratory! The general working hours are primarily Monday to Friday during daylight hours, with some flexibility required and rotating on-call coverage.
In this role, you will be a part of our dynamic testing and manufacturing lab, responsible for producing life-saving products. Our staff get the chance to interact directly with patients during cell collection and transplant procedures. This hands-on experience will allow you to personally see the valuable impact of your dedicated work!
Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title based on individual education and experience. The Expert Medical Laboratory Scientist’s salary starts at $27.54.
UPMC is currently offering a generous sign-on bonus for Medical Lab Scientists of $15,000 for those who qualify!
Responsibilities:
Follows established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner. Recognizes critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognizes factors affecting measurements and results and initiates corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and act as outlined in predetermined protocols. Operates and maintains equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Performs minor repairs. Uses reagents and supplies cost-effectively; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory. Maintains in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, their interrelationships and physiological conditions affecting test results. Conducts directs, or assists with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation. Performs High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.
