**Overview** M Health Fairview is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist for the **Blood Bank (transfusion medicine)** in the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-West Bank (https://www.mhealthfairview.org/locations/M-Health-Fairview-University-of-Minnesota-Medical-Center---West-Bank-west) and at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-university-of-minnesota-medical-center---east-bank) . This is a full-time, Evening shift position (8 or 10 hours). Open to discussing part-time options as well. Flexible start time options. Typical hours are 2:00pm - 12:30am. Weekend rotation as needed. + This position is also eligible for a shift incentive bonus of up to $1,000, paid out every 6 months. + Hourly shift differential paid for all worked hours. There are two primary locations of our laboratory, at UMMC East Bank and UMMC West Bank. Our team specializes in transfusion medicine for numerous patient populations, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. The UMMC Blood Bank provides blood components for transfusion and performs routine and complex immunohematology testing, including antibody identification, titers, and elutions. Our team consists of about 45 employees. **Responsibilities Job Description** The MLS/MT functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A MLS/MT performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS/MT correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS/MT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS/MT participates in laboratory performance improvement activities. Job expectations include: following established guidelines to obtain specimens and prioritize work, recognizing problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them, evaluating testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention, demonstrating understanding of and commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs, orienting and mentoring new employees and students, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Other duties may be assigned. **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor’s in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88. + Possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized.
