Position TypeFaculty Work Hours/Week40 Description of Work Unit The Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center’s mission is to improve the detection, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer in pet animals, translating research and knowledge to also benefit people with cancer. The Center attains its mission through an innovative study of cancer, thoughtful and compassionate care, and specialized treatment options and procedures. The Flint Animal Cancer Center research facility consists of eight lab spaces, state of the art imagery equipment, and collaborates with others on campus as well as University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Flint Animal Cancer Center continues to pursue improved treatments for cancer through its clinical oncology service, clinical trials, advanced clinical and research training for veterinarians, innovative research, and specialized consultation services. Clinical duties within the multi-disciplinary service will be shared among a total of 5 other medical oncologists, 3 surgical oncologists, 5-6 medical oncology residents, an oncology intern, a clinical trials intern, 2 surgical oncology fellows, 3 radiation oncologists, and 4 radiation oncology residents, and is assisted by service specific talented technicians. The oncology service is a robust unit within the Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital that closely collaborates with other hospital units in providing world renowned clinical care. The Flint Animal Cancer Center has 10,000 square feet of dedicated laboratory space populated with scientists with diverse interests and expertise in experimental therapeutics, genomics, radiation biology/physics, pathology, immunology, stem cell biology and surgical oncology, with a focus on cancers with veterinary and translational relevance. FACC faculty are also members of the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center and are afforded access and internal member pricing for all its facilities and shared resources. This position will be housed in the Department of Clinical Sciences located on the Veterinary Health Campus of Colorado State University. The integrated oncology service at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital offers the latest and most advanced diagnostics and treatments in surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and clinical trials to a bustling client and referral base. This position will support clinical and didactic teaching in the DVM program, resident training and mentorship in medical oncology, training of graduate students and postdocs, and research in the areas of veterinary and translational oncology. This faculty position will partner with other medical oncology faculty members to provide full time (52 week) clinical service in oncology.
