About the Job

A two (2) year professional training program in the physics of radiation oncology. Under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist, the Physics resident will be engaged in all aspects of clinical physics related to dosimetry and medical physics in support of patient care and quality assurance within the Department of Radiation Oncology.

What you will doUnder direction of physics and dosimetry staff, use computerized treatment planning (IMRT and 3D planning) and direct measurement to determine the radiation dose distribution in patients undergoing therapy.Perform calibration of linear accelerator using the TG-51 protocol, under direction of staff physicists.Assist staff physicists with daily, monthly and annual quality assurance checks on Departmental linear accelerators and other equipment as directed.Participate in the treatment planning, quality assurance and delivery of LDR and HDR brachytherapy procedures, under supervision of a staff physicist.Assist staff physicists in the treatment planning, quality assurance, and delivery of stereotactic radiosurgery/stereotactic body radiotherapy procedures.Work with staff physicists on radiation safety tasks related to shielding design, calculations, and patient/staff-specific protection issues.Under direction of staff physicists, perform in vivo dosimetry and OSLD measurements.Assist staff physicists in the planning, quality assurance and delivery of other special procedures including total body irradiation (TBI), total skin electron therapy (TSET), intra-operative radiotherapy and hyperthermia.Participate in acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment (ie., linear accelerators, etc) within the Department, under direction of staff physicists.Provide continuing education lectures to medical residents, physicists, dosimetrists, therapists and other staff as needed.Document clinical projects and other assigned tasks.Participate in Departmental seminars and didactics and attend lectures in radiation therapy physics.

Pay Rate:

$30.00 per hour

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
