Job Summary: The Medical Record Retention Technician provides support to the organization by maintaining paper patient chart records within the organization’s storage center.
Job Responsibilities:
• Maintains paper patient chart record availability by processing charts into the storage center – not limited to but including organizing, categorizing and managing paper chart retention.
• Maintains records accurately and facilitates chart location activities.
• Processes requests for charts from sites.
• Logs charts in and out of records center.
• Documents reasons charts cannot be retrieved for statistical and follow-up purposes.
• Maintains patient confidentiality by keeping patient records information confidential.
• Purges records from storage center in compliance with VH retention policy.
• Responsible for organizing the mass retrieval of old charts from the sites to the storage center.
• Assures that patient records are handled and stored in a secure method.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Has High School diploma or GED required
• Must have skills in independently prioritizing and accurately performing a variety of duties of increasing responsibility within a system that has frequently changing assignments, priorities and deadlines.

• Organized
• Must be able to work independently with self discipline and in a team environment
Working Conditions:
• This position may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time, as well as bending, and reaching.
• Required to lift or move objects up to 25 to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
