Job Description
The Medical Records position involves managing and coordinating the storage of all medical records across the company's platform, including paper records, legacy electronic medical record systems, and current EMRs. You will work closely with clinic staff to process requests for patient health information, ensuring compliance with legal standards and patient authorization. This role also includes clerical functions such as answering phone calls, copying, and faxing.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the storage of all medical records, including paper records, legacy electronic medical record systems, and current EMRs.Work with clinic staff to identify the type of request for release of patient health information.Review and ensure correct patient health information is provided, raising concerns about highly sensitive information with the legal department.Certify requests for patient health information to ensure compliance with standards and patient authorization.Contact patients and/or other relevant third parties to obtain appropriate authorizations.Process requests for release of health information and verify the accuracy and appropriateness of scanned documents and health information provided.Ensure all releases of information comply with the request, authorization, company policies, and State and Federal/HIPAA regulations.Work with the billing department to obtain relevant billing data.Retrieve health information records/documents from various departments and clinic areas and deliver/forward them to appropriate areas as needed.Serve as a resource in answering patient, provider, and employee questions/concerns relating to requests for health information.Perform clerical functions such as answering telephone calls, copying, faxing, and other assigned duties.Essential SkillsExperience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)Knowledge of HIPAA regulationsExperience in medical records managementStrong customer service skillsData entry proficiencyExperience with scanning documentsExperience in a call center environmentPatient service skillsExperience with EPIC softwareAdditional Skills & QualificationsPrevious healthcare experience, such as MA, CNA, PSRWork Environment
The work schedule is flexible with shifts from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowing you to pick the shift that works best for you. Once fully trained, approximately 6 months, this role could transition into a hybrid position.
