Position Overview: The Medical Records Auditor will be responsible for reviewing Article 28 outpatient clinic documentation in patient medical records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational guidelines. This role requires strong knowledge of medical coding, billing procedures, and healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will be able to identify discrepancies, recommend improvements, and support the ongoing efforts to maintain the highest standards of healthcare documentation. Key Responsibilities: + Conduct audits of medical records to verify the accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid). + Review clinical documentation for consistency, ensuring that diagnoses, procedures, and treatments are appropriately documented. + Ensure that medical records are properly coded and billed in accordance with ICD-10, CPT, and other relevant coding systems. + Identify errors or discrepancies in medical records and provide feedback to medical staff, including physicians, clinicians and therapists, to ensure timely and accurate corrections. + Prepare detailed audit reports that summarize findings and make recommendations for process improvements. + Maintain confidentiality of all patient health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Qualifications: + Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Billing and Coding, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred). + Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or similar certification preferred.
