Description:I.\tPosition Summary:

Under direction of the radiologist, utilizes equipment producing two/ three dimensional high frequency sound waves to create diagnostic images of the human body for use in diagnosis of disease or organ malfunctions. To participate with physicians in reading sonographs and making diagnostic judgments based on test results. The scope of practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS or ARRT certifications which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.

Position Requirements:

A:  Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Registered or registry eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical  Sonographers (ARDMS) (RVT) or (ARRT) Preferred additional (ARRT)(RT) registered CPR BLS Certification

B.  Education:

Graduate of an AMA approved school of sonography or radiology

C:  Experience: 

Experience necessary to demonstrate competence. 1 year experience preferred.

Special Qualifications:

1.Working Knowledge of the department and modality consistent with education level.

2.The ultrasound department has on call coverage 24/7. Job requires the employee to   

    share ultrasound call coverage with other sonographers.

Degree of Supervision Required:

Capable of performing procedure criteria specific to the level of education and competence as noted for specific modality without supervision or errors.
