Position Purpose

The medical staff monitor the daily tasks and incidents of the infirmary, organizes logs and critical paperwork, and administers medications to campers and staff. Other responsibilities include providing basic first aid, serving as Camp’s first responder, monitoring health issues both in and outside of the infirmary, completing necessary paperwork/documentation, and ensuring all medical needs on site are met. The medical staff work as a close team, in collaboration with the Camp leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Administers health checks for every camper on first day of each sessionWork with Camp Mendocino’s COVID-19 team to follow all health and safety protocolsWith the senior leadership, manage our COVID-19 response in case of symptoms developed or a positive test resultEnsures that all medications are administered according to doctors’ orders or “as needed” Attends to “walk in” campers and staff with medical needsActs as a first responder to emergencies at CampActs as a liaison with parents and/or doctors regarding camper medications, illnesses, and injuriesMonitors and assesses all campers and staff in the infirmary, overnight as needed (medical staff housing is in the infirmary)Work 8 hours shifts and be “on call” in the evenings (2 days off per week)Provides health education on hydration, sleep, stress, and other best practicesMonitors and maintains all logs and proper documentation Provides daily updates to Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director for Operations Qualifications

Required Skills

Current RN or EMT certification (California licenses)Experience being a first responderAbility to work with youth and staff in a positive mannerStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to handle difficult or stressful situations in a professional mannerExceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well with othersExcellent communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionExperience/interest working at a summer camp

Preferred Skills

California driver’s licenseExperience working with youth in a medical setting

Physical Requirements

COVID-19 vaccination required upon employmentMust be able to lift 50lbs.Must be able to walk on uneven terrain for at least 3 milesMust be able to be stand for 8 hours (with breaks)Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30° to 100°

Schedule

Temporary/Seasonal Summer position.Applicants should be available June 7 - August 7, 2023 to work & live on-site at our Camp location in Northern California (Mendocino County). Staff members work 40-56 hours/week depending on position with two days off per week. Days off vary per session. 

Lodging 

Lodging is provided for all staff on site. Camp Medical Staff will not be required to stay in a cabin with youth on a regular basis, but will be assigned bunk-style indoor housing that may be shared with up to 3 other staff members.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs.  At BGCSF,  our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position.  Depending on the need and requirement of the position,  an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation.   As such, a reasonable estimate for this temporary summer position from June 7 - August 7, 2023, is $4,000.
