Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf Medical Supply Aide and Technician: vacareers.va.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/Total-Rewards-of-a-Medical-Supply-Aide-Career-Flyer.pdf Duties: Train staff on how to properly clean, sterilize, and prepare medical instruments and equipment Ensure all staff members, including contract and military personnel, are well-trained in sterilization processes Regularly assess staff to ensure they are competent in handling sterile processing tasks Create and update instructions and guidelines for sterilization procedures Maintain records of staff training and adjust training programs as needed Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards for cleaning and sterilizing medical tools Check and verify the proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment Serve as the expert on sterilization processes and equipment cleaning procedures Organize special training sessions when new or urgent needs arise Teach staff about new medical instruments and equipment as they are introduced Communicate with equipment manufacturers for training and product updates Perform routine inspections to ensure equipment is clean and safe for use Provide reports on training and quality checks to management for improvements Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, Including Nights/Weekends/Holidays Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Six months of experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work; or Education. One year above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, and operating room and surgical technician courses or other courses related to the position; or Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of SPS and Infection Prevention regulations. Knowledge of procedures and/or operations in training developed for, and operations of SPS functions for both new and existing staff. Ability to manage integrated training programs as it relates to sterile processing procedures. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel or other software programs in order to complete reports and develop skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and management officials in regards to sterile processing procedures.
