Job Summary

The Medical Support Professional (MSP) is responsible for overseeing a variety of medical/dental and medication related activities for the residence, under the oversight of the program nurse and program management. The Medical Support Professional schedules all medical/dental appointments in conjunction with the program nurse.

The Medical Support Professional is also available to serve as a DSP, either part-time on a regular schedule or as needed, depending upon total weekly MSP hours. This includes implementing person-centered services for each individual and ensuring implementation of the individuals services, goals and outcomes in relation to program-based and community inclusion activities. In addition, the Direct Support Professional is directly responsible for the individuals overall physical and emotional well-being.

Job Responsibilities

Medical support assistants need to be well-prepared in order to deal with many sick or injured individuals. They mostly use various forms in order to gather patient’s relevant information such as age, name and address, date of birth, possible allergies and medical history. Medical support assistants are also responsible in handling forms that are related to the insurance of the patient. Some medical support assistants are assigned at the hospital’s emergency room department wherein they are required to do their job quickly and inform doctors for patients that need urgent admitting and treatment. In most cases, a medical support assistant performs a wide variety of duties that may change regularly or perhaps daily.
