Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme/Point Mugu is located on the vast Oxnard plain, just 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles, California. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Perform a wide variety of testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and immunoassays.Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.Perform phlebotomy on individuals utilizing proper type of anticoagulants, amount of blood to be drawn, needle and syringe, Vacutainer, butterfly techniques, and labels, as appropriate.Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.Maintain quality control within the clinical laboratory.Conditions of Employment:Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.A Personnel Security Investigation is required.Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.A pre-placement medical examination is required.This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Specialized Experience: Must have one year of specialized experience which includes working in a clinical laboratory performing the full range of procedures such as specimen processing, specimen shipping, chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, phlebotomy, immunohematology and/or bacteriology.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
AND
Certificate: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.Education
