Medical Technician III Job ID: 10581 Business Unit: MTA Headquarters Location: Brooklyn, NY, United States Regular/Temporary: Regular Department: Occupational Health Services Date Posted: Feb 13, 2025 Description JOB TITLE: Medical Technician III SALARY RANGE: $74,000-$78,000 HAY POINTS: OHS 303 DEPT/DIV: Occupational Health Services (OHS) SUPERVISOR: Manager, Laboratory Services SCHEDULE: 9:00am – 5:30pm LOCATION: 300 Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11201 SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervising the administration of drug, alcohol, and oral fluid tests to all employees and pre-employment candidates as required under the Federal Transportation Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, and New York City Transit policies and guidelines. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential. + Under administrative direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and action, supervises technicians in Levels I & II and performs tasks such as prescribed for those levels, as required. + Monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate technicians. + Plans and conducts training sessions for Level I and II technicians in various laboratory techniques and trains the same 'in new procedures and in the application of job skills, as needed. + Oversees a program of quality control and reviews control techniques of subordinate technicians; participates as a laboratory supervisor in audits, as required. + Oversees the ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment. + Provides support with contracts related to urine collections for drug testing, alcohol testing and routine blood analysis. + Assists in developing and revising laboratory policies and procedures. + Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communication and interpersonal skills. + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn organizational and presentation skills. + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all internal levels within a given organization. + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communicate and interact well with external agencies. + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn completing short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible. + Proficiency in and/or ability to learn analytical and/or quantitative skills. + Demonstrated proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: + High school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED). + Must possess a minimum of two (2) years at Medical Technician II level or six (6) years of related laboratory experience performing drug and alcohol collection and testing in compliance with U.S. DOT regulations or related field. + Phlebotomy skills required. + Knowledge of DOT/FRA and FTA regulations and collections required. PREFFERED: + Associate’s degree in a related field. + Prior leadership or supervisory skills + Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures. GENERAL: + May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e. evenings and weekends) + Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites + Must be on call to perform Post- Accident Drug and Alcohol Testing and Reasonable Cause /Suspicion Testing when required as per FTA/FRA Regulations.
