Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** Under the direction of laboratory leadership and with the ability to work independently, provides specialized testing and support for the CoreLab. Performs complex technical assignments, which are broadly outlined and require theoretical insight and interpretation. Exercises a high degree of skill and judgment and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of laboratory science. Responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all policies (Hospital and Laboratory). Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. This Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples, utilizing moderately to highly complex methods. Responsibilities include specimen identification and accessioning in the Laboratory Information System, gram stains, direct viral testing, automated immunoassays, direct molecular methods, reading culture plates and positive blood culture notification and work-up. Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work independently and possess strong organizational skills. She/he is also responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments/equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all lab policies. TYPICAL DUTIES: Set up and processing of samples for Microbiology testing. Testing of patient samples using gram stain, rapid EIA, automated immunoassay and PCR technologies, , reading bacterial cultures and performing susceptibility testing, sorting and organizing patient samples for testing and storage; adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols; reporting results of testing via LIS/ instrument interface, as well as manual data entry; communicating results to patient care providers and answering telephone inquiries; maintaining laboratory stock of kits/ reagents; performing daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment; participating in proficiency testing and training of technologists. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to multi task with strong organizational skills. - Ability to interact effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers. - Models standards of behavior creating an atmosphere of teamwork and respect. - Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements: - Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by New York State - Flexibility to stay beyond normal work hours to cover night shift, as needed.
