Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of laboratory leadership and with the ability to work independently, provides specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. Performs complex technical assignments, which are broadly outlined and require theoretical insight and interpretation. Exercises a high degree of skill and judgment and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of laboratory science. Responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all policies (Hospital and Laboratory). Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + Analyzes patient samples using current complex laboratory methods/instrumentation. + Reports results of patient sample analysis using computer/instrument interface options, task lists, LIS reporting functions, as well as verbal communication with clinicians. + Interacts with various technical, professional and clerical staff to obtain clinical information necessary for proper calculation of results for prenatal samples and/or proper interpretation of results for metabolic samples. Answers telephone inquiries. + Performs and adheres to quality control and quality assurance protocols. Performs equipment preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, as scheduled or needed. + Participates in the training of other technologists and/or residents. + Assists supervisor in maintaining supply inventory and participates in special procedures. + Attends and participates in case conferences with reproductive genetics and pediatric genetics.
