Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Technologist with a NY State Medical Technologist license or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science. The candidate will perform a variety of routine and specialized hematology and microbiology tests, contributing to the vital effort of addressing the critical blood shortage. This is a direct hire, permanent position.

ResponsibilitiesPerform routine CBC and Platelet Concentrate Quality Control.Conduct WBC counting for leukodepleted blood or packed red cells products.Execute pH testing of Platelets.Process and examine peripheral blood smears.Carry out SDP Bacterial Impurities Alert procedures using BPA culture bottles to detect aerobic microorganisms in blood.Process and manage samples, with a daily volume ranging from 100-250 samples.Conduct various microbiology tests as required.Train on all relevant testing procedures.Essential SkillsNY State Medical Technologist license.Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.ASCP certification.2-3 years of experience in Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank.Knowledge and understanding of immunohematology, hematology, and medical terminology.Additional Skills & QualificationsWillingness to consider entry-level candidates.Strong attention to detail and ability to handle high sample volumes.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Work Environment

The position is based in Westbury, working in a QC/Reference Lab that specializes in Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank related testing. The lab operates with a team of 4 Medical Technologists, 1 Lead Technologist, and a Manager. The candidate will work on a rotating weekend and holiday schedule, with shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 10am-8pm. Training will be provided on the first shift for the first six weeks. A full work week consists of 37.5 hours, with a 10% shift differential for hours worked from 7pm-9pm on the 10-hour shift. The company offers a low-stress environment compared to hospital settings, with substantial benefits including a pension plan, annual raises, and generous vacation and sick leave.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $91000.00 - $117000.00

- One of a few companies left that offers a pension plan and signs candidates up automatically without taking anything out of their pay check.
- Low stress environment compared to a hospital or working in a Blood Bank within hospital
- New employees will get 20 vacation days and 12 sick days per year in addition to 6 company holidays. At least 1 person needs to work each holiday.
-Atmosphere is very diverse so their usually isn't much arguments about who will work what holidays. 3 of the company holidays are 1.5 pay and the other are double time in addition to the normal pay they would get for hours.
-The pension plan (7% of salary) starts right away.
-They own multiple other Blood centers in the US including Kansas City Blood Center and are looking to buy more. They will let employees transfer to different locations after 9 months.
-They give out annual raises based of the companies performance (the company is a non-profit), anywhere from 0-5%.
-They are a product driven laboratory and not a patient driven one.
-Employees get a 1 hour lunch break and 2 15 minute breaks and are paid for half of that lunch break.
- When perm they will get 20 vacation days, 12 sick days and 6 holidays.
