Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Collects patient specimens as required.
+ Uses the Information System to admit patients, order and gather samples, record test results, respond to inquiries from nurses and physicians, document quality control activities, and generate necessary reports.
+ Verifies patient sample identification accuracy before analysis; assesses specimen quality and identifies unacceptable ones. Records information about specimen quality and the impact of sub-optimal specimens on test results. Initiates recollection procedures when necessary.
+ Conducts waived, moderate, and high complexity lab tests as defined by CLIA in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank, or microbiology using both automated and manual methods according to established policies and procedures.
+ Reviews test results for validity and accuracy before entering them into the chart. Identifies subtle yet significant issues with testing methodologies. Troubleshoots suspect test results using technical expertise and experience. Takes corrective actions when inaccurate or inappropriate findings/results/reports are identified.
+ Performs high complexity tests such as bone marrow and sperm morphology.
+ Ensures that designated turnaround times for results are met and that critical results are reported and documented appropriately.
+ Carries out quality control and proficiency testing procedures as outlined by policy.
+ Interprets and troubleshoots quality control results to ensure accurate and precise test outcomes.
+ Performs preventive maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
+ Participates in the evaluation and implementation of methods and instruments.
+ Investigates and resolves technical issues.
+ Serves on interdepartmental committees or teams.
+ Teaches students and trains new staff members.
+ Completes and signs off on competency checklists for technicians.
+ Develops and updates procedures as requested.
+ Acts as a resource for less experienced staff members.
+ Handles additional tasks such as scheduling and creating antibiograms.
+ Maintains competency in current procedures and acquires competency for new methods implemented.
Required Qualifications
+ Active ASCP MLS or MLT Certification
+ Must be proficient in the following: Microbiology, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry,

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $52.40/hr.
