A Medical Technologist performs and interprets tests at all complexity levels. In this role, you will demonstrate an understanding of the theory and scientific principles and the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects of laboratory testing. Maintaining a questioning attitude and searching for results to best determine patient care is essential. This is a rewarding opportunity for those looking to make an impact in patient care. **A caregiver in this role works rotating evenings/nights from 2:00PM - 10:30PM and 10:00 - 6:30AM.** A caregiver who excels in this role, will: + Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting. + Ensure that results are reported in compliance with the goals and standards of the department, hospital and applicable accrediting organizations (AHCA, CLIA, COLA, and JCAHO). + Accurately identify each patient specimen and testing orders and ensures results are accurate and reported in a timely manner. + Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolves specimens not meeting testing criteria. + Identify and resolve pending specimen results from laboratory information system for assigned departments. + Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion). + Note 'dates opened' and 'expiration dates' on reagents, controls, etc., and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates. + Maintain cleanliness of work areas and keeps work areas organized and stocked. + Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment. + Ensure instrument operation and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, start ups, and shut downs as assigned or required. + Answer the telephone, greet customers and provide consult and technical support to the physicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff. + Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported. + Document quality control and out of range results in an appropriate manner. Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: + Associate's Degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution OR meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses + Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from an HHS approved agency or nationally recognized organization such as National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) + Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels + One or more specialties: Microbiology, Immunohematology or all licenses Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: + Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLT or MLS) or certification eligible, from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) + Bachelor's Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from a four-year college or university Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
