**Description:**
+ Performs routine and specialized procedures, reviews and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocols for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.
+ Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
**Description:**
+ Performs routine and specialized procedures, reviews and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocols for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.
+ Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
+ **Shift - Weekend day shift position with rotating holidays, and flexibility to work other shifts as needed to maintain the continuity of patient services.**
+ **PRN**
**Responsibilities:**
+ Performs specimen processing and microscopy procedures, to include the inoculation of solid and liquid media, and the preparation and examination of stained smears and wet preparations;
+ Performs tests for the detection and/or identification of infectious agents;
+ Performs tests for the determination of organism antimicrobial susceptibility;
+ Performs other routine and specialized procedures in accordance as specified in the primary function, in a manner which assures an efficient work flow and a test turnaround time within the established limits designated in the department’s scope of service;
+ Produces clear, concise and accurate electronic and/or written patient reports;
+ Provides clear, concise and accurate verbal patient reports with appropriate written or electronic documentation;
+ Reviews patient reports, logs, etc.; for accuracy, clarity and completeness, making corrective action as needed;
+ Operates and maintains equipment necessary for the function of and provision of services by the department; performs preventive and corrective instrument maintenance/repairs and maintains records of actions;
+ Recognizes and troubleshoots technical and administrative problems, and initiates corrective action;
+ Participates in the Department’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Program, to include the documentation and maintenance of patient, quality control, quality assurance and other related records, adherence to all applicable policies and procedures, and assistance in establishing quality control programs;
+ Actively participates and assists in external and internal education programs, and maintains current knowledge of hospital, departmental and related external agency technical, administrative, safety, and regulatory policies;
+ Interacts with physicians, laboratorians, health care professionals and other professionals regarding patient care issues;
+ Utilizes time, material and equipment resources in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner;
+ Works with infectious and hazardous substances;
+ Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results;
+ Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify a MT III, Laboratory Manager, Director or Laboratory Pathologist;
+ Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications;
+ Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly;
+ Assists in the training and competency evaluation of other testing personnel, to include the documentation of the performance of individuals responsible for patient testing;
+ Assists with the evaluation of test methodology appropriate for the clinical use of the test results;
+ Assist in the verification of test procedures performed and the establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics;
+ Incorporates the goals and mission and the Organization Integrity Plan of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital into daily work;
+ Performs proper inventory, maintenance and storage of media, reagents, supplies, equipment and records; Performs other related duties as assigned
**What you will need:**
**Required:**
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), biological, chemical or related science; and satisfactory completion of a clinical laboratory educational rotation;
**-or-**
+ A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics –and- successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program.
**-or-**
+ A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry, one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, -and- one year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and/or Clinical Microscopy within the last ten years. Clinical rotations or professional experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology) or an appropriately board certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist.

+ New graduate to 5 years of experience in clinical laboratory setting.
+ Current or eligible ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification as a Medical Technologist. Certification eligible employees must pass certification/qualifying examination from credentialing agency within 12 months of employment. Can consider previously certified Medical Technologists, who met the credentialing requirements by the Department of Health Education and Welfare (HEW certified MT).
+ Ability to work in harmony with other personnel;
+ Demonstrates basic computer literacy;
+ Demonstrates comprehension, skill and command of oral and written English Language communication
+ Demonstrated competence in performing the full range of routine and specialized Clinical Bacteriology procedures.
+ Experience with Serology/Immunology, Molecular, TB/Mycology or a willingness to train and work in these areas ispreferred.
_Pay range: $29.86 - $43.34_
_Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location._
