I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
2. Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
3. Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
4. Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
5. Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
6. Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs moderately complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
7. May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
8. Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
9. Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
10. Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
11. Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.

2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
Preferred:
1. ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Three years of related experience.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
