Medical Technologists (MT) play an essential role in the organization and management of Cleveland Clinic’s Flow Cytometry Laboratory. Using your knowledge of the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects of laboratory testing, you will assist the department in critical analyses and reporting. In this position, you will expand your skillsets while exploring endless opportunities within Cleveland Clinic. 

A caregiver in this position works from 8:30AM – 5:00PM. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.  Correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.  Determine the validity of test results and the need for additional tests. Communicate test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements and other pertinent information.  Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.  Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.  Maintain clear and legible records.  Perform proficiency testing.  Participate in continuing education, professional development and annual competency assessments.  Recommend solutions and improvements. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from a four-year college or university OR meet the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or certification eligible from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscopeAbility to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tonesFine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipmentStanding for long periods of timeLight lifting occasionallySome exposure to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
