Job Description

Dupont Hospital is in need of a Medical Lab Technologist to join our team!

Schedule:

PRN, Varied hours/shifts

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of analytical determinations on body fluids and tissue samples using approved laboratory protocols that require independent judgment and accountability.  Monitors the work of other hospital team member performing point-of-care testing and laboratory team members who also perform low, moderate, and high complexity testing.  Reviews quality control data for acceptability of test results, trends, and biases. High potential for biohazard and chemical exposure.  Maintains confidential patient information, complies with Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, and Medical Necessity Policies, in addition to all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position.

Licensure:      

MT by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT, etc) or meet education requirements below.

Experience:   

Experience in the field of Medical Technology and the use of personal computers is preferred.

Education:     

Must have a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution that includes the minimal educational requirements outlined below:

Education and training, including 60 hours or equivalent, from an accredited institution that include either--

24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or24 semester hours of science courses that include:Six semesters of chemistry;Six semesters of biology; andTwelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; or

Successful completion of an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).

Other:              

May include training of up to 3 months in each dicipline of testing.Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the laboratory specialist.Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
