DEFINITION:
Drives single unit trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds and less than 26,001 pounds.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class have responsibility for driving single unit trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds to 26,000 pounds. This responsibility includes picking up, transporting, and delivering furniture, equipment, supplies, materials, produce, and passengers between County facilities and other locations. Positions also operate various accessory equipment such as pumps and winches, check the operation of the trucks and make minor repairs, and participate in the loading and unloading of the trucks operated.
Essential Job Functions
+ Picks up and delivers furniture, equipment, produce, and supplies between County facilities including institutions, camps, warehouses, offices, branch libraries, and recreational areas.
+ Transports work crews, materials, tools, and equipment to job locations and may participate in or assist in supervising the work of a crew.
+ Hauls gravel, sand, soil, and other materials.
+ Operates accessory equipment such as pumps, winches, snowplows, etc.
+ Inspects trucks to ensure conformance with safety regulations and practices and that they are properly serviced; performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs and adjustments to truck and reports mechanical defects.
+ Loads and unloads trucks driven and may participate in the storing and moving of materials in warehouses or other buildings.
+ Ensures that truck is checked and serviced for preventive maintenance and repair.
+ Maintains records and prepares reports.
+ Pulls small trailer-mounted equipment such as generators, compressors, cement mixers, toolboxes, etc.
+ As need occasionally drive heavy single unit trucks with a GVWR of more than 26,000 pounds or combination truck units with trailers of 6,000 pounds GVWR or more.
Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENT:
One year of full-time experience driving trucks of 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)* or more.
LICENSE:
A valid California unrestricted Class “B” Driver License with airbrake and tank endorsements is required to perform job-related essential functions.
A valid California unrestricted Class “A” Driver License with airbrake and tank endorsement may be required for some positions
PHYSICAL CLASS:
4 - Arduous: this involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.

Successful applicants for this position must obtain and present a copy of their record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. ELIGIBILTY INFORMATION:
