Basic Job Functions: [[cust_safetyState]] The Melt Shop Maintenance Mechanical Lead is responsible for assisting the Mechanical Supervisor in leading and developing the Mechanical team in the Melt Shop. The Mechanical Lead must prioritize safety above all other considerations and be able to manage a team of mechanics, machinists and trainees. The person in this role must be able to understand complex processes on a system-wide basis to include all aspects of steelmaking, both mechanical and electrical. This position reports to the Melt Shop Maintenance Mechanical Supervisor. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards always. Compensation Data: Pay Grade 10 Base rate $23.70/Hour plus production bonus Production positions are paid a base hourly rate along with a production bonus which is calculated based on quality tons produced. All Nucor teammates also qualify for profit sharing. As an example: Production bonus percentage = 165% (5 year average) Average annual Compensation = $72,000 - $90,000 (2024 before profit sharing) Profit sharing percentage = 15.29% (10 year average) Minimum Requirements: Minimum 3 years experience as a mechanic or electrician in a steel mill or similar industrial environment. Detailed Selection Criteria: A proven commitment for the safety of self and others, with an emphasis on housekeeping and organization Strong Nucor culture leadership and communication skills Possess a strong desire to constantly improve system operations, product quality and customer service Positive attitude and self-starter; proven ability to work well with others and as part of a team Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and help others succeed; strong initiative with the ability to take charge and direct others Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory. Ability and a desire to manage and prioritize multiple projects successfully that are highly time sensitive Good understanding and working knowledge of the following: hydraulic systems, electrical systems, PLC, air systems, water systems, welding, fabricating, power transmission, print and schematic reading.
