Mental Health Awareness Training Specialist

Job Description:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for serving as the primary source for scheduling and facilitating mental health awareness trainings; providing technical assistance for participants before and after training. The incumbent will track and evaluate referral data from participants.

Essential Job Functions: 

Serve as the point of contact for members of community organizations in the assigned geographic area for mental health awareness trainings.

Provide information to participants about mental health programs and resources.

Offer technical assistance and training resources to the communities in an effort to enhance mental health awareness. 

Be responsive to requests for mental health awareness trainings and information throughout the counties within the geographic area to provide or make available referral resources to all populations, organizations and groups, as appropriate and as resources are available. 

Contribute to the development and updating of a mental health training calendar.   

Coordinate planning, implementation, and evaluation of the mental health awareness training grant.

Participate in the national mental health conference and any other trainings required by the grant.

Prepare and submit the monthly referral report to Project Director for the assigned geographic area meeting all report requirements.

Prepare and submit the monthly Mental Health First Aid Update to the Project Director.

Solicit mental health awareness trainings throughout the service area to affect the population of focus as required by the grant.

Assist with the development of a final annual report.

Participate in the development of Quality Improvement Indicators and quarterly reports.

Attend and participate in conferences and internal in-services as required by contract and/or Project Coordinator, Project Director, and/or Executive team member.

Demonstrate interest in long term and short term goals and objectives of the company.

Other duties as assigned by Project Coordinator, Project Director, and/or Executive team member.

Incumbent of this position with be required to obtain Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid instructor certifications within first four months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the program to which the employee is assigned.

Aptitudes to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned program responsibilities.

Capability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively to produce clear and concise reports.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a closely related field, who has at least one (1) year professional experience in a social service agency;  OR

Graduate from an accredited college with an Associate’s Degree education, public health, psychology, community development, public administration, or a closely related field, who has at least two (2) years of professional experience in a social service agency.

Employment Requirements:

Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter – expected for all direct car staff, but mandatory for RCF staff.

Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
