Mental Health Clinician

The Mental Health Clinician shall follow the Sheriff’s Office chain of command policy and work under the supervision of the Mental Health Director.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Shall assist in the care and custody of inmates detained or sentenced to the Norfolk County Correctional Center, or related programs.Shall provide assessment case management/stabilization to the inmate population.Shall perform mental health screenings as necessary to identify those in need of mental health treatment.Shall serve as a liaison to the consultant Psychiatrist and the forensic mental health department on inmate mental health issues.Shall provide specialized cognitive behavioral treatment to the MAT and substance use population.Shall provide individual and group treatment specific to clinical needs, specialized populations, new initiatives and programs.Shall work closely with all disciplines (program staff, security staff, medical staff, etc.) on issues of inmate care.Shall maintain confidential files and statistics on all inmate encounters, mental health referrals, and treatment services provided.Shall ensure mental health services are in compliance with ACA, NCCHC and DOC standards.Shall ensure continuity of care for the chronically mentally ill inmates from admission to discharge.Shall evaluate referred patients, follow-up as indicated, and document in medical records.Shall conduct restrictive housing unit inmate rounds and complete all appropriate/necessary paperwork.Shall evaluate all psychiatric patients housed in the Health Services Unit to include disposition.Shall conduct discharge planning for inmates receiving mental health services.Shall assist in special projects as required.Shall perform administrative tasks (including attending meetings) and paperwork duties/assignments in a timely and professional manner.Shall perform other duties as assigned by the Mental Health Director.The Sheriff of Norfolk County reserves the right to add or delete from these responsibilities.

HOURS OF WORK:
40 hours per week evening shift or as assigned by the Director of Mental Health and/or designee; regular Saturday shifts required, holidays, evening coverage. Work schedule/hours worked subject to change based on facility needs.
