Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology. Practica/field placement relevant to college counseling. Eligible to become a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Mental Health Counselor II:
Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology. One year post master’s experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.

Mental Health Counselor III:
Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology or Doctorate in Counselor Education. Five years full-time equivalent post-licensure experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting – or – CCMHC/MAC credential and three years full-time post licensure experience in a college or university counseling center or relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in the State of Texas.

Mental Health Counselor IV:
Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology or Doctorate in Counselor Education. Ten years full-time equivalent post-licensure experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting – or – CCMHC/MAC credential and seven years full-time post licensure experience in a college or university counseling center or relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor (LPC-S) in the State of Texas.

In addition to the above requirements, must have: a.) three refereed publications b.) five state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity* – or – CCMHC or MAC credential AND ONE of the following: a.) one refereed publication b.) two state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity*.

* Substantial professional organization activity means major involvement in a professional association, including holding office in a state, regional, or national association, or service on a committee or board of a state, regional or national professional organization. Nature & Purpose of Position Provides clinical mental health services to the student body of Sam Houston State University for the Counseling Center. Primary Responsibilities Provides personal counseling via individual, couples, and group modalities as well as crisis intervention. Participates in the development and delivery of prevention-based outreach programming. Provides consultation for the camps community, participates in the centers after-hours on-call rotation, and participates on appropriate Counseling Center and /or university committees. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Mental Health Counselor I:

Mental Health Counselor II:

For clinician developmental progression from a Mental Health Counselor I, a performance evaluation indicating that individual is performing at the expected level for an individual at this level of training and experience. Developmental progression is an evaluative process and not an expected move based on experience.

Mental Health Counselor III:
Requires detailed knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Requires thorough knowledge of office systems.
